South Africa Beats India by 4 Runs in Final ODI to Seal 3-0 Series
Deepak Chahar’s valiant fifty (54 off 34 balls) was futile as South Africa defeated India by 4 runs in the 3rd One-Day International on Sunday, completing a 3-0 whitewash within the 3-match series.
South Africa, spearheaded by Temba Bavuma, beat India by four runs at Newlands in Cape Town, sweeping the ODI series 3-0.
Quinton de Kock’s century (124 off 130 balls) undoubtedly helped Africa record a competitive 287 in 49.5 overs. Except for de Kock, the Proteas also got crucial contributions from Rassie van der Dussen (52 off 59) and David Miller (39 off 38).
India’s wicket-takers were Prasidh Krishna (3/59), Deepak Chahar (2/53), Jasprit Bumrah (2/52), and Yuzvendra Chahal (1/47).
Shikhar Dhawan (61 off 73 balls) and Virat Kohli (65 off 84 balls) scored significant runs in reply; however, India was in jeopardy at one stage after losing quick wickets in the middle overs. On the other hand, Deepak Chahar’s under-pressure knock sparked hope and kept India in the game till he arrived at the crease.
Prasidh Krishna got three wickets, with Chahar and Bumrah each taking two, as the hosts were dismissed for 287 within 49.5 overs.
Dhawan’s leading-edge flew up in the air. Kohli’s outside edge deflected off from the initial slip fielder, and India surpassed the triple-figure benchmark within the 19th over. The keeper Quinton de Kock secured the win.
After Deepak Chahar was bowled in the initial ball of the 48th over, this was game over for India, as South Africa took the final two wickets too fast to complete a 3-0 whitewash. The hosts were eventually bowled out for 283 in 49.2 overs.
South Africa’s best successful bowler was Andile Phehlukwayo 3/40. Quinton scored his 17th ODI century his 6th post-India in 17 innings, tying AB de Villiers as well as Ricky Ponting for the most ODI centuries against India, trailing only Sanath Jayasuriya’s seven tonnes.
