Pablo Carreno Busta remarks on Rafael Nadal’s greatness
Nadal won the Melbourne Summer Set and the Australian Open back-to-back in Australia. “Rafael Nadal is almost incomparable; it will be truly difficult for us to see someone like him again,” Carreno Busta told Marca.
“He is in the fight with Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic to be the best in history; we will see what happens.”
Carreno Busta was ‘amazed’ by Nadal’s incredible win.
Nadal appeared to be on the verge of losing the Australian Open before overcoming Russian Daniil Medvedev 2-6 6-7 (5) 6-4 6-4 7-5 in a dramatic comeback.
“To win as he did against [Daniil] Medvedev [in the 2022 Australian Open final], losing by two sets to nil; against [Denis] Shapovalov [in the quarterfinal], where he recovered after his slump and beat him in the fifth; even with Berrettini [in the semifinals],” Carreno Busta said. Medvedev was up two sets to one, 3-2 in the third set, and also had 3 breakpoints on Nadal’s serve. It was the beginning of Nadal’s remarkable comeback, as he saved 3 straight breakpoints.
“It was not easy at all.” With 21 Grand Slam titles, Nadal has set a new record, whilst Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer are tied for 2nd place with 20 Majors each.
