On a War-footing, the Indian Embassy in Kyiv is Evacuating Indian Nationals via Train

The Indian Embassy in Ukraine has recommended students depart the capital as soon as possible, using any available rail or method of transportation.

On February 28, the Indian Embassy facilitated the migration of over a thousand students from Kyiv to Western Ukraine, including roughly 400 students who had been accommodated nearby the Embassy since February 24. Around 1400 students from Zaporizhzhia, a city within South-East Ukraine, migrated westward.

According to official sources, the Indian Embassy in Kyiv has issued an alert, requesting that Indian people leave the Ukrainian capital, and embassy staff is available at railway stations to assist in the evacuation of Indian students.

Some kids, however, were unable to board because of severe overcrowding at the terminals. The Embassy issued guidance urging all remaining students to leave Kyiv immediately and travel west by train or other means. The Embassy is continuing to better coordinate with student coordinators for all Indian students still in Kyiv to travel west.

However, the Indian Embassy throughout Poland organized buses to transport students awaiting at the Shehyni boundary crossing point on the Ukrainian side to other places like Krakowiec and Budomierz, making it easier for them to get into Poland.

S Jaishankar, the External Affairs Minister, spoke with his Polish counterpart Zbigniew Rau yesterday about the evacuation efforts. The scenario at the Polish border posts has improved due to high-level discussions.

General V.K. Singh, a Union minister, is now on his route to Poland as the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to re-energize the Centre’s efforts to assist Indians stuck on the Ukrainian side of the Poland-Ukraine border. Nagma Mallick, India’s ambassador to Poland, is likewise on the ground close to the Polish boundary posts, personally directing the evacuation efforts.

Teams from the Ministry of External Affairs Embassy are attempting to organize shelter in adjacent towns, especially Uzhhorod close to the Hungary border, to minimize the effects of overcrowding and long wait times at border crossings. These arrangements are now being coordinated with local governments, colleges, and other organizations.
