Details on the Oscar Academy Awards 2022

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences honoured the best films from the previous year at the 94th Academy Awards, which were held at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood. Amy Schumer, Regina Hall, and Wanda Sykes hosted the night, marking the first time the award presentation has had several hosts after James Franco and Anne Hathaway co-hosted the 83rd edition in 2011.

“CODA” won all three categories for which it was nominated, including Best Picture and a historic win for Troy Kotsur, who was named Best Supporting Actor, making him the first Deaf actor to get an Academy Award. Marlee Matlin, who also acted in “CODA,” was the first Deaf performer to win an Oscar for her performance in “Children of a Lesser God” in 1987.

Jessica Chastain’s performance in “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” earned her her first Academy Award nomination. Will Smith won Best Actor immediately after a stunning incident. He seemed to hit Chris Rock from across the face as the comedian was delivering a different award and cracked a joke regarding Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

But the ceremony sparked outrage even before it premiered when it was disclosed in February that 8 prizes would be given off-air to cut the broadcast time and allow for additional scripted bits and musical performances. Before the official event, Denis Villeneuve’s version of Frank Herbert’s sci-fi epic “Dune” received honours for sound, production design, original soundtrack, and editing.

Several protocols remained in place while the Oscars returned to their original location after being rescheduled due to the COVID-19 epidemic last year. Everyone in attendance needed to show confirmation of vaccination or a legitimate medical exemption. Performers, as well as presenters, were checked but not vaccinated.
