Sanjiv Kapoor, a Veteran of the Aviation Industry, Named CEO of Jet Airways

Kapoor is Oberoi Hotels and Resort’s president at the moment. He was the chief strategy and a commercial officer at Vistara before joining the Oberoi group.

As part of its efforts to restore Jet Airways, the Kalrock Jalan group assembles a senior management team.

On Friday, the consortium declared the selection of Sanjiv Kapoor, a veteran of the aviation industry, as its CEO. On April 4, Kapoor will assume command.

Kapoor is the president of Oberoi Hotels and Resorts at the moment. He was the chief strategy and commercial officer at Vistara before joining the Oberoi group, where he supervised strategy, network planning, marketing, and other responsibilities.

In 2014-15, he served as SpiceJet’s COO, developing innovative pricing and marketing methods. The airline also had a liquidity problem due to rising oil fares, which resulted in a change of ownership. In 2016, Kapoor quit SpiceJet.

Vipul Gunatilleka, the former CEO of Sri Lankan Airlines, was named Jet’s chief financial officer earlier by the consortium.

“I always believe in investing in human capital and by having Sanjiv as the CEO and Vipula as the CFO, I am certain Jet Airways will reclaim its lost glory and surpass everyone’s expectation,” lead partner of the consortium and non-executive chairman, Murari Lal Jalan, of Jet Airways, said.

“Working together with a very strong team of experienced aviation professionals that the Jalan-Kalrock Consortium is putting together, I look forward to leading the charge in rebuilding Jet Airways into the most preferred customer-oriented airline once again, a people-focused airline for the digital age,” Kapoor stated in a statement.

Kapoor, who previously served as president of Oberoi Hotels and as a chief operating officer of SpiceJet and Chief Strategy and Commercial Officer of Vistara, stepped down as chairman on Thursday and is expected to join the airline soon. Kapoor will be Jet Airways’ second-highest-ranking executive to be named.

Jet Airways, which is currently owned by the Jalan Kalrock consortium, had planned to reopen in the first quarter of 2022, but that appears improbable, and the airline could reopen in the summer months.
