2nd T20 – IND vs WI: Fine with Batting When Needed Says Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant, India’s wicketkeeper-batsman, stated he is happy to bat wherever the team wants him to and feels that the more one trains, the stronger one becomes.
With an undefeated 52 off just 28 balls, Rishab Pant was among India’s key builders with the bat as they posted an amazing 186 during the first innings.
Apart from his scorching knock, Pant formed a crucial 76-run collaboration with Venkatesh Iyer (33 off 18 balls) as India triumphed by eight runs and sealed the series played against the West Indies.
However, Team India wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant said that seeing Powell smash India bowlers across the park pleased him because Powell could play for his squad, the Delhi Capitals, there in forthcoming IPL 2022.
“As long as the team wants me to bat anywhere, I am fine. I think inside the circle, everyone was looking for that catch (Rovman Powell given a reprieve at 38) to be taken, and we thought it was Bhuvi’s catch, but it happens. It’s part and parcel of the game,” Pant stated after being named ‘Player of the Match’ in the post-match presentation ceremony.
Pant noted the pick-up shot over leg-side, how one among his novelty shots had been mastered via constant repetition. “I don’t mind playing the situation and not only at the death. The more you practice, the better you get.”
When asked about his interaction with Iyer during their pivotal stand, Pant said, “The only thing we were talking about was we would play according to every ball. It is never easy to play every game (in bio-bubbles). But this is what I have always wanted to do. I always enjoy what I do.”
Pant finished praising Rovman Powell’s unbeaten 68-run innings, which ultimately proved in vain. Powell was selected by the Delhi Capitals, who would be captained by Pant within IPL Mega Auction before the 2022 season.
